I would say that our Notes in circulation would do well over time in very large proportions indeed.

Small. We have shown that the holders of our security contained in our Court notes enjoy about as complete security as it is possible for them to have, still it is our desire to meet as far as possible the wishes of Lord Knutsford, and the Lords of the Treasury. I submit that the offer in the Chief Manager's letter of the 8th of June to lodge, say, two millions of dollars worth of securities in the hands of the Government of Hong Kong would amply meet the case. I would merely add that instead of naming Chinese Bonds only, the wording might be: "or other securities approved of by the Government of Hongkong" as in the extracts of Lord Knutsford's despatch of the 25th of April, to which you refer in the foregoing. You sent to us reference to the late Oriental Bank and to the case of the Anglo-Egyptian Bank.
It is good enough.
